Treating Properly After Choosing The Best Aquarium Driftwood Is Paramount

When you want to use driftwood in your aquarium you must also choose the right type for better functionality and look. You must also know what driftwood can do to the water in your aquarium. There are lots of natural compounds like tannins in wood that are released into the water as soon as you put it in the aquarium.

This can stain the water with a light yellow residue mixed with it and when it is high in concentration it can even have the color of tea. The color will depend on the type and amount of driftwood used.
Boiling And Soaking :
Therefore, after Choosing the Best Aquarium Driftwood you will have to treat it properly to remove the tannins in it. If you boil driftwood then you can remove most of the tannins in it which will not affect the aquarium water. You can even soak the driftwood for a long period in a container before you introduce it into the aquarium.

Just know the type of driftwood that you have chosen as few types of driftwood can even require months of soaking before all the tannins are effectively removed to save your aquarium water from discoloration.
Facts About Tannins :
It does not depend on The Dramatic Design of Driftwood as tannins are present in all plants which is the best defensive compound that enables the trees and plants to counteract the bacteria and fungi. This helps in protecting the trees from immature decay by reacting with the surface proteins. Just like the ‘Black water’ habitats in many rivers that are filled with tannins making it a difficult place for any organisms to survive, your aquarium water will also be affected similarly if you do not treat the driftwood properly.
